Time for Tactics, 2020
Juried Exhibition, Texas State University, JCM Building
In the era of the Vietnam war, the horrific nature made it a go-to occurrence for the use of satire. Joyful music was overlaid real-time war footage, and this emulated the unawareness and ignorance of mainstream culture.
I was interested in the history of the spinner hat, where I was introduced to a silly puppet show: "Time for Beany". Even though the show was child-centered, the political and social satire garnered the attention and appreciation of adults. There was a level of hidden communication and knowledge that went under the radar for a portion of viewers, which is synonymous with the true nature of war. Vietnam was the first war to be continually caught on film, which gave many the belief of perceptual understanding as they watched from home.
This is a sculpture and video project centered on highlighting ignorance and play, when it comes to war.
